Board of Prefects of SMK Matang, Ipoh
Report on Discipline Cases in Form 5 for the Year 2009

    Date: 6 January 2010

The total number of discipline cases for the year 2009 was 150. The discipline cases involved being late for school, keeping long hair, being rude to teachers, not tucking in shirts or blouses, smoking and bullying other students.

During the first quarter of the year, there were 60 cases but in the next quarter, this number dropped to 50 following a Discipline Camp that was organised by the Board of Prefects in March. Several useful activities were conducted during this two-day camp. Students had to follow a strict routine of early morning exercise followed by talks on moral values and then complete projects assigned to them. The camp was successful in instilling a sense of discipline in the students.
between April and June, there was a further drop in the number of cases to 40 after the Board of Prefects conducted a Discipline Campaign in June. The activities in this campaign included an exhibition, an essay writing competition, a poster drawing competition, a seminar and a sketch. This campaign created awareness among the students of the importance of discipline.

Only 25 cases were recorded in the last quarter of the year after the Demerit Programme was launched in September. Students were informed that marks would be deducted from their final grades if they committed disciplinary offences. This warning encouraged students to behave themselves and this led to a drop in the number of disciplines cases.

In short, the board of Prefects is happy that the number of discipline cases dropped gradually through the year.
